Now I am really curious what happens after next molt.

Sounds like what can happen in Almond colour pigeons especially if you breed two together . All seeable colour eventually molts out & blindness is a regular happening .

Interesting... If it's depigmentation, I would think there'd be other color loss as well... paler legs and eyes?

Interesting, makes me wonder if it's an autoimmune thing whether there could be problems down the line.

This occurs a lot in the following 2 breeds of black ducks Black East Indies and Cayugas . I think in the ducks it is an age thing also usually year 3 the ducks are white. It also seems that it is the ducks that are top quality IE really black (beetle green ) are the most prone too colour change .

well thats interesting Bob. what happena to them after... do they loose their eyesite? and what happens if you breed them together or to a regular duck? those east indies are beautiful ducks!

I found a few more science papers on this, it is suggested it is autoimmune, and that its... continued from computer where those papers are

No Al they don't lose eye sight and some of your best offspring come from the white females . I first saw white Indie females in a visit to Ontario , the breeder was a well respected judge Mr Krussell (sp?) .Ross might remember him it was many yrs ago . Over the yrs I have seen many pictures of Indies that are snow white .

I have Cochins and mottled, spotted, speckled, spottledeckleds are often happening lol. I think the blue colour has something to do with it. Ok that leghorn is just waaaaaaay cool, you should start a new line of breeding leghorns and market them for people who like getting different breeds, tell them if they get bored with their flock, just wait a few months and they will have a new looking flock lol.
Did that leghorn hatch chicks? I thought no leghorns went broody?
