What a difference a year makes

Post by Bayvistafarm » Fri Dec 16, 2016 11:10 am

The older I get, the more I dislike winter. I love it HOT. I'm getting OLD... and trudging thru snow to the barn with 4 litre jugs of hot water wears me out. I did splurge and bought myself a heated bucket for the hens. I figure they work the hardest, they drink a lot.. and its not fair for them to go part of a day with a frozen dish of water.

Theres always something to do on this farm. By the time I get the cows bedded and other related chores, and do MY OWN chores... cause the birds are all MINE.... I'm too tired to want to do anything else. I've never ski'd, I really dislike snowmobiles... to much exhaust/noisy... did ice fishing as a kid....

Going out in a morning like this one to start the bus is getting to be a 'chore'. I haven't finished shopping, or started decorating.

Whining? Sure am! I wish it could be as nice as it was this fall, all year round!!

Happy wrote:QR_BBPOST I would take that green grass all year round! I'm a horrible Canadian. I hate snow, cold, hockey and I'm not too fond of maple syrup lol. I should be stripped of my citizenship and deported!
Not helping that hubby and I both caught a brutal cold on the plane, I've been up since 4am and had to haul wood in through a foot of snow carrying a flashlight at 5 because we both put it off last night. Yep gimme green all year long...
You're near Wasaga beach and complain about winter? You might get more (lake effect) snow than any of us and you live there? Get a snowmobile, or go skiing, you are beside some great places! Instead of sitting inside whining go out and play! Ice fish (in a hut), snowshoe, ski, instead of sitting around watching Dr Phil and the other crap on tv! Do like the Swedes and bring a flask of warm spiced wine. You can't appreciate the heat without the cold!

I know a guy that moved here from the Netherlands and he loves it here: instead of cold, damp and rain he can now play outside.
Who's Dr. Phil? What about playing games on our phones? Is that allowed? Games like Words With Friends (like Scrabble online).

macleans magazine from last winter calls us winter wimps. Winters are milder than they were but more variable (freezing rain; freeze thaw cycles etc.) even the guy that founded Winterlude festival in Ottawa in the 70's now spends winter in Florida. Norway, Sweden, Finland folks are more active outdoors in winter than we are.
