Blue Swedish Duckling

Post by Maximus » Sun Aug 07, 2016 12:55 pm

Added a new duckling today. 5 weeks old. Being told it's a Blue (silver) Swedish. I don't know anything about the breed other than there isn't too many of them around.
This little one is a lone survivor of a barn cat attack and they didn't want him left alone.

Anyone think he/she is something different?

I'm hoping my ducklings accept him when I sneak him in the coop tonight :)

The little duckling has a mentor friend. My femal Muscovy duckling is showing this new one the ropes. I bet those Muscovys are great moms!!

Blue Swedish Duckling

I used to raise blue and black swedish-they are nice full sized ducks-lay well (if it's a girl!)
Ross asked for a pic of adults-so added it here.

I had blue and blacks, (in this pic there are also 2 rouen boys we later processed) and also Silver Appleyards.
There is one badly marked one (not a bib but almost a white shirt! ) but you get the gist of the bird. They are very striking, just found that water-ducks didn't work well in my barn in the winter so sold them all after one wintering and breeding season. Should have tried Muscovies instead.

Being shown the ropes. My one for sure female Muscovy is definitely taking her/him under their wing. So sweet.
