A learning experience

Grampa grew up with work horses. He loved to tell this story.
His dad was always telling him not to play around the horse’s feet, that he would get kicked.
He would say “Don’t worry Dad, Brownie likes me, he wouldn’t kick me.”
Then one day when he was six or seven, chore time in the barn, old Browine kicked him half way across the alley into a pile of straw. He was a lot more careful after that.
When he was a young man, ha said “Dad, remember the time old Brownie kicked me?” And the old man started laughing like everything, almost to tears, and said “I knew I would tell you one day. That wasn’t Brownie, it was me. I figured I could gauge a kick to make you smart, not crippled, and you would be more careful.”
Lotsa lessons in life. A teaching moment, but of a different kind.
