Re: Chicken Techno
he already wants pheasants....so i can release them and he can shoot them. LOL. problem is, they are not allowed in elgin county because they are considered "exotic"....and i looked into what would be required in the way of permits, and well, let's just say, prohibitively expensive and PITA.
al, i could so see you with rhea and peacocks. if you can catch it there's a peacock in the woods north of my place....(she really lives at the end of the street but came to my place over a year ago, then we couldn't catch her, and she took off into the woods north of us....i think she hangs out with the wild turkeys).

Re: Chicken Techno
So basically, if he gets couple of Tragopans, few pheasants, Jungle fowl and an Emu or two, he will be saving money ?

Re: Chicken Techno
will emu stay inside an electric fence? OC, i think *I* would save money ;-P
um....martin do NOT look up tragopans. PERIOD. LOL. (he WILL want those....)
i never took a liking to emu meat. so those would be purely ornamental....i saw one once...walking down a field up the road from me, obviously escaped from somewhere, only thing is, the closest place with emu was out near appin, a good 15 minute drive away! never saw it again....

Funny Elgin cty not allowing Pheasants , I'm supposing u mean ringnecks . They hunt them at Fingal conservation or used to & when I lived there the biggest Pheasant farm was near Aylmer .

Re: Chicken Techno
HAHAHAHAHAAHA! Martin dont look up tragopans! When we were moving here im SURE i saw one cross the road in front of my truck... good thing I stopped cuz he was in no hurry. I should have a pic of it somewhere... it was at the very least a super fancy pheasant. there was 2 farms one either side of the road so it must have belonged to one of them, i didnt even try to catch it and it didnt even take off or anything just continued on its merry way. Ringnecks are exotic to North America as a whole so did Elgin County impose extra restrictions? according to the regs anyone can buy ten ringnecks for put and take hunting during the open season without any additional permits required. but breeding them is a different story. theres a massive ringneck farm in Chamlachie, uplands Pheasantry, its a state of the art breeding facility, they have buldings as incubators! they were also featured on How its made.
HAHA sorry for the Hi-Jack

Re: Chicken Techno
That Uplands Al is the one that used to be south of Aylmer . The original one east of town lost most of their birds when a heavy ice storm took down the pens . They moved south of town & rebuilt near Copenhagen where I lived . Maybe they got chased out . Are they saying all breeds of pheasants Kathy cause I know a lot a folks who have in the county .

Re: Chicken Techno
maybe thats how they got banned... could you imagine 50 000 pheasants all over the place and your only allowed to hunt them during the open season! hahahaha!
Oh that farm is a beautiful place! the owner took us on a mini tour and is such a nice guy.

Re: Chicken Techno
A lot just stood there & were rounded up . Many the predators other than man got and by time season rolled around nothing . We also , this is back in the 70's & we still had a reasonable flock size of wild ones in area but they dwindled too Carcasses showed deceases moved back & forth & that was it .
