Somewhat disappointed

Just candled 53 eggs
1 was cracked
1 fertile one I cracked. Uggggh
10 definitely not fertile
17 I'm not sures
24 definitely looking good
The 10 definitely not fertile are from 2 white pullets I got as day olds from a hatchery to put under my momma hen when her eggs didn't hatch. Why would all 10 of them be non fertile? All cracked open to confirm. Nothing!!!
I see the rooster breeding them
The rest of the eggs I sorta expected a few to be non fertile because they were from buff orpingtons and silver laced wyandottes and I'm not sure Earl could "reach" them ( for lack of an appropriate word to use on here. Lol)
My luck is not too good
Oh well one good thing. I was able to get them into one incubator
I ran 2 specifically so I could get at least one incubator full of "good" eggs
Should have filled the second one instead of just 12 eggs

Ross I Sold wyandottes at Friday nite sale.
$87.50 for 5 hens that were 2 yrs old and 2-5 month old mutt roosters
So that was a bonus for me
Although still have 2 orps I should check that on them

Also have never used this rooster before. But I don't think that's a problem given 24 are definitely fertile

Not a stupid question. Yes, there is. My very first hen never laid an egg.

Interesting! So the chemical wizards created "terminator" seeds (permanently infertile so you must buy more seed) and now a "terminally infertile" chicken! No doubt they are working on it.

I think Ross gave you the answer twice. Trim the fluff above the vent on females, below the vent on males.

Haven't done it yet
Have a few feather eating hens here to take care of next weekend
Don't want anyone else with bare patches for them to peck at
And believe me. They will find the smallest bare patch and it's like a frenzy
Maybe they need to meet the axe instead of going to the sale for meat. As that's all anyone will buy them for. They are half plucked already. Lol
