I have another silly girl, Partridge Chantecler, wanting to set. I got some hatching eggs so we'll see. She's only 8 months old.

No idea what is normal these days with the weather. My turkey hen set way outside normal time frame. SHe has a cozy coop and if she hatches we can add supplemental heat. I think @ross has hens that hatch in winter in his barn.

Has anyone ever tried using these? They can probably be sewed by anyone that's good with a sewing machine...

Is this list correct? I see some chickens that I thought were common on the list like RIR?

Farmers usually don’t keep and nurture chickens for long, thus the concern regarding the difficulty of handling the poultry population.

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy or ALBC has been asking help from us concerning the chicken census. ALBC is finally determined to extend their concern towards all breeds of poultry found in the Northern part of America. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work to take on even just two breeds for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization located in Rome.

It of the utmost importance that RBC poultry breeders are registered on the RBC website so that we are informed and updated with what resources we presently have.

The Chantecler, which is the only Canadian native breed, is highly demanded. Therefore, we are in need of more breeders in all areas of the country.

The following breeds are critical in terms of number (<100)

Ancona
Houdan
Silver Gray Dorking
White Wyandotte
Brown Leghorn
Munro Leghorn
White Jersey Giant
Saskatchewan Plymouth
Barred Rock

Endangered Chicken Breeds (100-499):

Chantecler
Shaver White Leghorn (2 strains)
Columbian Rock
Hungarian Yellow
Light Sussex

Vulnerable Chicken Breed (500-999):

Black Jersey Giant
Minorca
New Hampshire Red
Rhode Island Red

At-Risk Chicken Breed (1000+):

Barred Plymouth Rock
