the good news on the farm...

We do have some good news on the farm.
We have a Rustic Ranger hen that was badly injured from rooster spurs. We isolated her with a frantic/paranoid Barred Rock that also needed to regrow a lot of feathers. That went well, and they both got along and healed. Then we put the Rustic Ranger with the youngest chickens and guineas. She is very good and gentle with teaching them manners and pecking order. She lets them know when she wants more space. And she has her own laying box where she occasionally lays an egg.
And after disposing of the two older roosters, the flock is much happier (and so am I). We now have one young RIR rooster. However, we do have a few cockerels that are with the Rustic Ranger. I guess it was not a great year for hatching hens.
