Egg shortage
Egg shortage
I saw on the US news that they are having an egg shortage because of the Avian flu. They expect it to last a long time because of the number of chickens that died or were put down. I wonder if biosecurity measures didn't work, or if a lot of the producers don't use biosecurity measures.

Re: Egg shortage
After the last outbreak a few years back nothing would surprise me. Trucks of infected carcases taking them to the dump and them falling off on the way - no joke. The other thing of course is that egg layers are older than broilers and are more at risk. Also when a broiler barn is infected there is a loss of ? 10weeks for cull and disinfection before starting over. Egg layers have a 15 week + gear up time assuming they don't lose their breeder birds.
