Re: Good Morning - 2023
Good evening! I haven't read the past posts here yet... hope all is well with everyone.
Been busy, with the bus, hatching... starting seeds, pricking out seedlings, and putting in bigger cups. Too much water, and damp in the basement, to do it downstairs, so I've been doing it in my living room, and kitchen. WAY too small. Miss the old farm house. I must say it every day, I HATE this place... and think of my old farm kitchen, SO big, greenhouse right beside the house...etc... and Heather doesn't do a smidgen of what I do... both work away from home all day, and this little house is filled with almost everything I had, and do, what a mess in here!! Add small people tables, craft stuff, etc for babysitting Maren (grand-child), and thinking I'd like to get rid of this stuff when she goes to school (jk) this fall, and I would be rid of it all. But then, with a kitchen so small, barely 2 people can move in it... table space hardly enough for 2, to sit.... and I just took out the one of two chairs today, because I constantly walk into it, carrying plant boxes in and out thru the kitchen, and holy... you would think I would be HAPPY I HAD a house at least to live in, on this farm, but today, when trying to clean a floor that was beyond dirty, and move among stuff.....I must have said 42 x, that this is the LAST GARDEN, AND SEED STARTING I'm doing.
Oh well, enough bitching. Its not going to get better. Neither is my mindset. Ever.
I set 110 eggs, and at day 10, took out 27. 83 eggs left... after alot didn't hatch, probaby drowned... even tho I dry incubated/hatched.... I got 61 chicks. 2 have died. 59 is what I currently have. Hatched just before Easter weekend. Thought Melissa would have done her easter photo shoot with the kids... but it never came up, even tho she knew I had chicks.
I thought I had a black copper marans rooster, covering my EE's. I mean, last year, I hatched EE's, I KNOW I had 2 BCM eggs hatch... a hen, and roo..... shes got feathers on her feet.... and some lavender orphingtons. I know what they looked like, I got 3 hatched, and 3 roosters. Naturally. Then, on a chicken site... I saw a picture of someones BCM rooster, that had died.. and they wanted another. Duh. I KNOW what a BCM roo looks like, and MINE is nothing at all like that. Hes all black, NO muffs, (which all the other black/blue ee's had)... huge comb, like marans have... I just figured that he WAS marans. The dad was that self blue ameracauna of all the ee's. I had NO other eggs from anywhere else, other than those orphingtons, or marans.
So, I have NO idea what he is. I guess I will see what colour these chick lay, when its time. SOME have muffs, some don't, and some of these are hopefully EO's.
Dave took a cool picture of a sunset... with jet trails thru it. looks like a cyclone or something....
A closer view of it...
And a picture of my 18 year old Roscoe sorta failing barn cat. He gets an injection for osteoarthritis monthly. Love this guy... and another pic of the other barn cat, stray boy who is about 13.
Dave took and sent a picture of his cat, he so wants to go outside, and has snuck out occassionally, lol.
Well, I suppose thats all for now... trying to stay up later, so I'm not in bed by 8pm, and up at 3am. Alarm goes off at 4:30am as it is... and I've been awake as early as 2am, and not been able to get back to sleep, looking at the clock and despairing as I see it tick closer to alarm time, and I'm not asleep, lol.
Have a good night....

@thegawd No, I didn't snap any pics. But poultry_admin and I watched for a little while both of us remarking that it looked like something really big was on fire somewhere over there! We saw that 2 nights in a row, and it wasn't until I got back on FB and saw people asking what it was that I clued in that all of chatham hadn't burnt down or something LOL. It looked a lot like a really orange sunset that just never bothered to set!
congrats on the hatch @Bayvistafarm! He does have some BCM qualities-like that comb is HUGE! LOL. Hopefully he is, and just not showing it well....although no feathered legs, maybe he's a mix. Hopefully you'll get some nice olive layers from the batch!

Re: Good Morning - 2023
Its Corunna nova chemicals, they sometimes have a 300 foot flame coming out of the stack. Apparently that stack is now the tallest in Canada. They make polyethylene.
I see that flame and glowing sky often but they were just restarting the plant after a massive billions of dollars upgrade so the normally 300' flame was likely much taller.
Heres what it normally looks like, without the light piller. I took this pic right after the piller disappeared.

Its like another sun! And I don't know how the people who live close to it can put up with it. Its not just bright its also very loud. I can hear it 30kms away when its flaring.

Why would anyone want to steal 30,000 chicks? Sell them for money?
