I saw a video of a buck that heard the bolt coming and you can see him crouch and the bolt pass over his back.

Yep can be difficult. They add sound dampeners to help .
Aiming for that jump sometimes helps

thats a great shot @ross Congrats to your neighbour! I've been out....had a very old, old wrinkly buck not 10 feet from me. Just awesome. He lives another day. He had come in to my grunt call, down a steep ravine edge, across a river and up the hill on the other side. I misread where the trail was that the bucks were following and he popped up (wheezing and out of breath) RIGHT THERE. No chance ....And i felt a little bit like "wow, even deer get old and arthritic and out of shape" LOL. So he putters on....As do the 2 one year old does and the 2 does with fawns. The one i just felt so sorry for. she just wanted dinner....in the beans, and her two fawns were just pestering the heck out of her, and racing around and falling down and getting up and trying to knock her over, and racing everywhere....she looked seriously exhausted. I've seen deer every time i've been out, but we have major coyote issues, so if the deer doesn't drop on the spot it's a race against time to get them before the coyotes do. Sigh. Gun season this week has been a tough one with the weather being so windy (the bush is not safe with the ash borer trees all falling!) and driving rain. DH has a permit this week, I don't, so I'll catch up on the barn cleaning and house cleaning this weekend. Hoping I'll be out again next week off and on....feels super good to be back in the bush after so little time able after the back surgeries.

And just for Ick factor, I picked up 2 ticks on November 5. NOVEMBER. Like come on!!!!! Ticks in november is just wrong.

That sushi looks incredible! Maybe i'll make a trip to sarnia....we like hanna sushi there.
