I'm not as bouncy as I used to be... Pleasure skating at the local skate trail... I'm all in!... and maybe a nice slow beginners run once in awhile would be ok...its hard to resist the urge to fly down the hill I certainly was tempted during Christmas but I figured with my injured knee... I have no idea how I injured it... Apparently meniscus tear and ECL sprain...i can just see the look on my Dr face...lol...

Also our chickens started laying eggs again... They haven't laid an egg since October... It this normal?

Yes it is, days are getting longer, chickens know....:)
If you want eggs in the winter you have to provide at least 12 hours light in the coop.
Most people are happy to give their chickens winter break.

What will a Démon Duck do? Bite you? Will the bite leave a large welt?

I was with a friend today and asked her if she had photos of the flock I had long ago. She sent some to me. Note that we had a puppy and a kitten at the time and the kids spent the whole day with the chickens!

demon duck is a muscovy and is super protective....and goes for the face with claws and wings and beak. their claws are sharp and long and their bite draws blood ...its only when shes sitting on eggs. other times shes a normal duck....

My 93 yr old mum lets the chickens out about 9 am and checks three or four times a day for eggs. We are getting maybe 5 eggs a day from about 15 hens, yes lights on a timer. But the excitement! Its like a kid fascinated. And once in a while I sneak one or two out of the fridge and put them back for her to find again. Darn goats helped her fall a week or so ago and I have forbidden her to go out without me, and she has to have her stick with her too. Kind of fun playing tricks on your parent and issuing orders. That'll teach her for years back.

This was on the American Kestrel Parnership website. Perfect for winter.

"All nature lies still in the meadow tonight
Bare birches etched black by the dimming daylight
The verdure of summer and autumn's red glow
Have left nature's stage at the rumours of snow
Now birdsong has faded and those left behind
Must strengthen to face winter's oncoming tide
'til once more we hear, 'neath a blossoming tree:
KILLY KILLY KILLY KILLY KILLY KILLY"
– Robert Frost, "December," 1914

Chatting to a friend on our dog walk at noon today when we saw a fox crossing the road, followed by another fox! Good to know there are foxes about because we were overrun with rabbits in the garden this summer. Maybe the foxes can keep them down to a dull roar.......
