Great way to celebrate solstice :)

So here we are having weather again, anybody watched people getting ready for the storm, by going shopping for flashlight and batteries?
Really ? it's winter in Canada, you don't have a flash light ???

I assume we are going to end up without hydro at some point, so have two meals half done, one I really want to have for lunch today, and the other one just in case hydro goes out. :)

We lost power last night for a few hours. Fire in the wood stove and a generator to run a light, the tv and charge our phones. We didn't skip a beat 😂.

Our chickens are very scared with all the wind and banging noises. They wouldn't go into the coop last night, but took shelter underneath where it is protected. Guess they didn't like the snow blowing in through the vents either. Thinking of bringing them inside and putting them in dog kennels in the basement. Is that a good idea? 50F in the basement.

I woulldn't bring them in because then they have to adapt to the cold and their routine all over again.

@labradors, I agree with @Killerbunny . Is there any way you can make the coop more comfortable/appealing to your chickens? Maybe hang a piece of plastic over the vent outside and cut a smile init so that the snow won't come in but the air will still pass through. Ours don't like the wind either, but our coop doesn't get weather coming in, so they're quite happy to spend time in there. Plus, they do have flat panel heaters in there that go on when the temps hit -10C, so there's that ... I would try weather-proofing their housing before attempting to move them into the basement ... that sounds like a lot of work, plus all the clean up after you've moved them back out.
