@Farrier , they don't look as if they have any plans to move. ;-)

 I agree....

I spent the morning shoveling out, again, and for a change looking for a cat???, foot prints across porch, led under a covered patio table and didn't see them going out on the other side, so there I was on my belly checking for a cat / or whatever.
Didn't find anything so here is hoping it found a better shelter then our wind blasted porch.
Lots of branches down, but we still have hydro, so here is hoping..
Hope our Kingston area neighbors are ok, sounds a bit "blitherly " down there.
Interesting Christmas Eve for sure.

It's a mess in Kingston. Our driveway is clear, but the front door is covered in a snow drift. We had a shock last night when hubby went to take the dog out. Fortunately we had a small shovel inside which I used to clear some snow from the doorway for them. Said (old) dog was confused about having to jump into a big snow drift.

Luckily we have power, but it's still snowing and blowing like crazy and the chickens really don't like it. Just walking down to see them, we get gritty bits of snow sand-blasting our eyes and the wind tends to blow us off course!

Quite the Christmas storm!

Two responses didn't come through! Grrrr!

Many thanks to Killerbunny and Jaye. I was worried that it would be a problem moving them (to say nothing of all the work involved).

Jaye, I like the idea of covering the vents with plastic and adding smiley's.
The problem is that we DID cover the covered run with plastic panels (leaving an air space at the top). Hubby built an extension to keep us dry when we feed/water/clean up the coop. It was covered with plastic panels, one of which shattered and blew out (and one blew out of the covered run too). Hence a lot of extra noise, but they've also lost the protection and warmth :(.

We'll plan on leaving them where they are and fixing things up when we can.

We managed to get outside and work on the coop this afternoon. We covered the two vents that were allowing all the snow to blow in. (There's another vent that is protected by the covered run.) We also secured a piece of tarp over the broken plastic in our "utility" area which gives a lot of wind protection to the south side of the coop.

Two of the chickens had been taking refuge in the nesting boxes, and we were able to entice the other two out from underneath the coop, and put them in the coop with the others. Then we closed the pop door. I think they will all be a lot more cozy now. :).
