I don't know about anyone else, but this winter has been an excellent one for egg production.
My pullets (RIR/BR cross) started laying later than I thought - more like late December, into January when I was thinking they'd start in October.
This Spring, I will be better ready should I have a broody hen; now I have a spot for one in the barn.
Not sure if I will hatch any in the incubator this year, if so, then just 12. We'll see.

Egg production was really good then had that really cold spell and egg production stopped. Now they are gearing up again. Already hatched out some chicks due to crazy broody hens and have another one on eggs. I took the last chicks away from the hen and put them in the brooder. Just too cold for chicks, would always find one out from under the hen and stone cold dead.

egg production has been decent for me too...and now i have a mom with 2 chicks that appeared a day ago, so egg production was better than i thought, and in an unknown location within my pile of hay in the barn apparently.....um

I had stock-piled a pile of eggs, ready for my hens to stop laying over the winter, but they never did! They slowed down a little when it got really cold, but never stopped. Perhaps it's because they are young and didn't molt?

In November and December, the hens were laying about 7 eggs a day.
In January and February, they were laying 12 - 14 a day. And I'm still getting that and more from the 28, or so, hens.
It's hard to keep track sometimes; they keep moving when I'm trying to count. The day before yesterday, they laid 19.

Among my 7 standard size girls that still lay the first one to resume laying is my oldest, Sharon. A Barred rock from Freys that is almost 6. Second to lay was my second oldest, Bebe who is Sharon's daughter and third to resume laying was Ellie-May who is Bebe's daughter. It has to be genetic!
The rest are all at least part Cochin and inherited the lazy gene!

I hatched some pullets in early may and they started laying in December. Had eggs all winter.
