No more chocolate! Is there any more reason to go on living! Lol. So watched it again last night, I love the way it gives us the bigger picture, just when we think we know the big picture of problems, there usually is an even bigger picture. Ugh, see the part where hog farmers in England have to make everything much more humane (which I like) because consumers demand it, but then they go buy cheap pork imports from countries that abuse the pigs, typical cidiots!

You buy what you can afford . I heard tell that Mc Donald's is importing their beef from off shore . They say Canada can't supply . That's a load of bull , forgive the pun .Its cheaper . Simple economics .

As you say it's interesting when you see the bigger picture, how global everything has become and how interrelated.
Seeing the dust bowl in midwest last night made me think of the dust bowl 100 years ago, it's like we haven't learned a thing.
No windbreaks, no crop rotation and I am sure that "No till" is one of those newfangled ideas they aren't going to bother with.
Flying over midwest towards Colorado you see farming in basically high desert by watering sand laced with fertilizer. UGH
And they will pump the aquifers dry and wonder what happened to all the water. Sorry just a bit of a rant ;)

Yup history will always repeat itself as we are a species with amnesia, and besides being Human, we fit the definition of a virus. sad

What are all the circlular fields in the pic? is that a method of planting so they just keep going round n round from inside to out in an attempt to save fuel or something? seems like the rest of the property is kinda wasted... hmmmm

They are fields that are being watered by movable circular watering systems.
That is why Colorado river doesn't reach the sea anymore.

I'm looking around here at a few local farmers tearing out the hedgerows for "better" farming. In the UK they already did this and now they're trying to replant and reverse. I mentioned this and was told it was nonsense LOL!

AHHHH HA! Crop circles it is!

I get ya with the irrigation, makes lots of senses, desert outside of the field, lush green field inside, drying up river system that has forever changed the course of the environment. those fish that should have been able swim up that river to spawn as they always have, will die. ya lets hurt, disrupt and kill a natural food source so we can build an artificial one destroying everything in the way. makes me so sad!

I just read a news article about the residents of flint Michigan. their water supply used to come from the Detroit river, good clean water. then they started pulling water out of the heavily polluted flint river because it was cheaper knowing fully what the consequences were going to be, the water being pumped to peoples houses NEVER passed government environmental water tests. now all the residents have lead poisoning but the worst part is lead poisoning hurts kids the most and can never be reversed. leading to mental retardation along with other irreversible side effects. they finally reconnected the water to the Detroit river and the water is fine again. they have enacted a state of emergency to help get the funds to help out with everything in the wake of this but it will never fix the problem.

sad world we live in.
