Soybean Harvest

Post by Giffen Farms » Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:45 am

Soybean harvest has begun and im busy hauling beans to the port in Hamilton, don't realize just how big these ships really are, its been so busy that our 3 trucks have been leaving the night before just to stay ahead of the lineups of truck traffic, we're a satellite elevator for Parrish & Heimbecker one of the world's biggest grain buyers and users, a few years ago they built the first flour mill in Canada in over 75 years, great people to work with :racer:

Thanks for sharing. We've dived one of the freighters (Eastcliffe Hall) in th ST. Lawrence and they are huge although that one is a "smaller"one.
A colleague was Gudjurati? sp? and his wife used to cook amazing spiced soybean snacks for Divali. Are these a type people can eat?

These can be eaten i know I've eaten my fair share off the trailer in the fields, mainly used for crushing to extract the oils and the byproduct is used to make animal feed - soy meal

Our beans go here, although first, they go to a local elevator close to where we live. We are just outside of Hamilton... in Flamborough, although we ARE actually enclosed in the great City of Hamilton. We can see the harbour and the ships from the top of our silo, with binoculars.

Our beans ran the best in the county here, despite near drought conditions. Must be the good beef manure, we liberally dose our fields with. We grow only about 120 acres.... small potatoes, and the beans on rented ground (that doesn't get any manure), didn't do that well. We averaged just over 70 bushels.

Maybe you've seen Cox Farm's trucks at the port? That is the elevator we deal with.

Hubby was touring one of the boats down there, and took a picture of Cox Farms truck while there. And a picture of our truck unloading at their elevator..both of these are old pictures

Nice yes I have seen that truck in amongst the hundreds that are here in the lineups, but your 2nd picture is taken at Bunge next door, they are the crushing plant of soybeans and canola

This is a picture of our grain elevator just outside of Barrie off highway 26 that was taken during wheat harvest, we mainly grow, soybeans, winter wheat and winter canola on about 400 acres.

At the elevator we accept corn, soybeans, winter & spring wheat, canola and oats, have 3 full-time trucks on the road to help bring in the harvest and to haul it all out
