Favourite nest box...

...strikes again. When the newbies moved in all three of my nest boxes had eggs in them the next morning. Within a couple of days, two only were in use. Today? Five eggs laid...all in one box. Funny thing, it's the same fav as my last flock.

And yes, immediately upon posting there are 7 views and only four online...and there is no way anyone got to look at it faster than I did.

Rhonda..i have only three nesting boxes in my coop..they all get used, sorta, but one is by far more popular..and on some days the line up causes an egg to get laid on the coop floor, and i have even seen three hens trying to get into the same nesting box at the same time..what a squawkfest that turns into...and its that very same box..i have yet to determine what is so special about that particular box though, they are all identical...

I have 10 nesting boxes in the main coop. They have 3 favourites, dominant girls will growl with each other and both squeeze into a box until someone barks. But I find they will spread out in the boxes while waiting and relax. Then when their favourite box is available they scoot over and deposit their egg. Most eggs end up in 2-3 boxes but all get used, if not for laying simply as a 'waiting room.'
