Hey all. I have the cutest little backyard mix from an egg my uncle gave me as an extra.
Any guesses what it will grow into? Forgive the lousy photos, mama is protective and the little bugger's fast.

I don't see a spot on the head so probably solid black but those white eyebrows are throwing me. She's a cutie though! Love her black legs.

Solid black likely-possibly with white on the very tips of the wings.

Thanks, I was wondering what the likelihood was that the white butt/wings and face markings would stay.
I have never had a black chick or chicken, so I didn't know what to expect.

that chick down pattern is ER. the E locus dictates pretty much where the "colours" will go as an adult. ERs tend to be either solid white (in which case the chicks are blond or white) or solid black as females. The males are usually a solid base colour with the regular hackles in whatever gold or silver base. If this one is a girl it will be solid black with maybe a touch of lacing on the hackle/neck in whatever gold/silver base it is (so either gold or silver). If it's a boy the base colour will be black, and then hackles and saddle in gold, silver or lemon (depending on his background, lemon is just a combo of one copy of gold and one copy of silver). Usually on the ER background the wingtips are white in the chick down, but go away by the third full moult (the moult to adult feathers).

Almost looks like my black australorp chicks. They had white wing feathers until last moult!

Wow, that is extremely interesting.
I'd love to understand better. Any chance you could recommend where to learn more about this?
