For the Desire of Undisturbed Sleep

For a few weeks now, I have been dealing with hen droppings on top of the heated water fount in the barn. So on went a circular piece of cardboard, which did not stop all the droppings from getting into the water. Then that was exchanged with a metal baffle. That worked much better.
Last night, when we went out, flashlight in hand, to check on the new hens, to make sure they were all in the coop.
I decided to also check the heated water fount area in the barn. Shining the flashlight through the window, what did I see?
There were two henny com-padres perched on the cross beam high above the water fount. They have no problem hopping up 4 ft. onto a little roof, where a few of them sleep. These two took it a flap further up to the cross beam.
I'm waiting for the morning that I find them roaming around in the barn, outside of the fenced area.

The other night, DH went out to check on the birds. Guess who else was up on the cross beam?
The rooster!

Most of my birds will sleep as high up as they can possibly get. I have a HUGE Cochin that sleeps in the rafters 6' up. If you give them access to it they will find a way to get there.
