Yes @ross we are lucky to have pensions. When I worked at $ store a couple of the ladies could hardly pay the rent because hours were being cut back even then. I rally hope they get some help. We live quite frugally and are glad we are in the habit of that.

Is it just me or is there a sudden explosion of people wanting to raise chickens during covid social distancing. It seems to have started during March Break with so many fb posts of people saying they had been doing research with the kids and think it's a great project for the family. Now they are looking for advice of where to buy coops and hens. I just hope that those newbies understand that keeping healthy chickens involves commitment & daily chores. Am I a pessimist for predicting an increase in postings for coops & chickens for sale this fall/winter once stores stop limiting the number of cartons of eggs per family?

Just like many other fads, some will take it up, some will abandon it soon, and some will stop at the planning stage.
Then there will be people who will think they can make money with chickens
and the only victim as per usual will be the birds.
history indeed repeats itself.

I really hope it takes off like in the UK where a lot of folks have backyard chickens these days even in urban settings

For some obscure reason people in UK seem to understand that having animals means you look after them.
North America seem to be too much on a fast track to care for anything accept themselves.
Boy I sound snarky today, cabin fever setting in I think.

Hey OC don't feel bad at the rant. Now the comments I am going to make here may upset some but anyway... I have a major problem ATM with the media clearly lapping up all this. I don't do well with kids and this am screamed at DH to turn the f*****g TV off because I can NO LONGER stand the happy feel good videos of ghastly children screaming out "songs" to make us all joyful and forget the other crap. I do love @Happy Memes though. I guess it's all down to personal preferences LOL! I also have a Biosecure sign on the gate though to keep the local monsters out. One of mothers is a local nurse who apparently thinks rules don't apply to her and seems to be hosting playdates.

Glad I'm not alone in being grumpy. I cannot seem to switch from hearing depressing news to suddenly hearing somebody being perky and bright. Don't even get me started on kids! Bah humbug!
