Yes it's amazing the first time you see Saturns rings! The thing that shocked us was how the moon appears in relief and not at all like the flat map you expect. We got a 10" dobsonian with good lenses - you?

Havent been on for a while. Lots of whiny things going on in my life. Aging relatives, bonehead kid, sick goats, weeds in the garden, body parts not working like they used to. Other stuff, and I just havent felt like posting.

The milk police phoned me, asking me about selling goats milk, wanted to come by and have a visit and inspect my premises. Said I wasnt even allowed to sell for pet consumption. Knew my first name and phone no, wanted to know my last name and address. Threatened to charge me with obstruction if I didnt answer questions. I told her to show up with a warrant or leave me alone. Was rather proud of myself, didnt use any bad words. She called me on a non government line, Sherry Taylor showed up as the name. Searched on the web, she is an OMAFRA "compliance officer" out of Kitchener. She would also check into anyone selling eggs. So I guess she is the milk AND egg police. Wonder if she packs a shootin ahrn? Probably promoted from the lawnmower police. Bloody bureaucracy. I wonder if she knows I also sell home made jam without a license?

Thinking of posting about the origins of Labour Day, but cant get into it. All I know is that it started out nine months after Fathers Day. Cant be bothered to look into it further.

Anyway, need to go do some stuff. Pick berries, make jam. Shall get back into things soon enough.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed if she shows up at your place and still asks for your address. ;-)
The fact that she only had your first name a phone number sounds a lot like someone who doesn't know you personally, or a casual acquaintance, filed a complaint.

wow. as far as i know selling from farmgate is not a problem for eggs.....no clue about milk. tell her it's for making soap. not for consumption. but tell her that BEFORE you tell her where to go. You'd think the world would have a ton of other things to worry about right now LOL. Or you can tell her you don't sell it....and then make sure that you trust the people that do sample your milk! just argh.

We got an 8 inch dobsonian-it's crystal clear (and i'm picky because i use high end microscopes all the time)....and we did get the set of different oculars etc so we can do an additional 1.5, 2x and 4x magnification with it. i moved away from a 40 year old 3 inch reflector that was missing pieces... lol. i figured i still wanted to see things like the moon, and didn't want to get into a bigger telescope too fast before i figured out what i was doing. We do need to figure out how to calibrate this one-we got a motorized one. we did the calibration the other night but it was out a little bit. but given that we already know where lots of things are to look at i'm not too worried about it. LOL.
I was actually wondering if it's possible to see the guys waving in the windows of the ISS as it sails by LOL. It seriously looked like saturn was drawn up there with a magic marker! the rings were HUGE! Now i want i HUGE telescope....lol. i'm going to try taking photos with this one, DH has ordered an attachment for a digital camera. I'm going to try old-school first, hold the cellphone camera to the ocular HAHA. we shall see.....

Another beautiful day here. On vacation. HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! my boss owes me another 2 days of vacation. I swear the minute I left things fell off the rails (just like always). oh well. i'll take another 2 days some other time. it's still nice to not be driving into town the last 2 days. And i'm managing to get marinara sauce cooked between the emails and phone calls.

Ug, and my rant....elderly parent.....sometimes....just sometimes....i wish i had been disowned. triple argh! who knew someone could make that big a deal about depends underwear....sigh-it ended up involving 1.5 hours of driving (in addition to the DH's earlier trip), an additional 40$, several hours of biting my tongue and holding my temper, providing dinner, and being late doing chores....<insert huge sigh here> all because of a stupid box of depends underwear-that my parent could have actually gone and bought themselves! seriously??! my goodness i need to be retired so that the biggest thing in my day is underwear!

I dont think this is the appropriate place to be publicly discussing the size of your big underwear.

@ross , thanks for posting. Most of us are all going to experience the "not so nice" things that are part of aging at some point.
