Changing times.

Post by kenya » Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:37 pm

Well my husband sees me bringing one of the chickens into the house. "Is she sick?" he says. I tell him no but shes the only one like her I raised and shes a little thin and I don't want to take a chance. I tell him I have some wheatees I'll give her. He tells me yes ,better not take a chance, I have some harvest crunch in the car , do you want me to bring it in for her?
This makes me stop and think back 20 years when we were first married and I brought a chicken into the house, he was like nooooo way get that thing out of here!
How things have changed, for the better I might add.
Anyone else have this experience?

Yep. It took me twenty years to convince my DH to raise our own chickens. I think the prospect of a building project (chicken coop/run) swayed him in the end. Now he's all "I have an idea to make [insert anything poultry-related here] ... better".
And he is the one who sits himself down on one of the stools in the quail tractor, just "communing" for the better part of an hour sometimes.

Well, this was my 'mid-life-crisis'...i wanted chickens, not a sports car. Now we have 4 hens house and enough chickens to fill them. Now, when i get home from work i get, 'I moved the fence for the silkies, they didnt have enough grass and i think you need to build.......'
When i bring them into the house, as long as its not a rooster, what's wrong with her...lol a long way indeed.

I live alone so I bring whatever I want into the house. :)

My favourite saying “THE ONLY THING CONSTANT IS CHANGE “
Luck all this winter with your birds . Remember if you save & breed the weaker ones you will end up with all weak ones in your flock eventually. Not talking breeds but individuals within breeds .

Yes Ross for the most part you are right ,and I agree but I remember a good friend at school was born a preamie. Only 1 Lb at birth, I would have thought that one that tiny would end up with quite a few health issues later in life , which a lot do. She has no health issues whatsoever and you would never know. I think of that and I will help out a little chick that needs a little extra but I won't go overboard to help out a chick with obvious physical problems such as cross beak or bad legs.

Lol yep but that’s people & an individual. My point was breeding / reproducing
Inferior livestock not people.
I always remember when I was in the horse / training business a horse / Mare that just didn’t have the talent or weak in structure the owner would say “ I’ll just breed her “ To me that was just reproducing the faults . Didn’t make sense . Just my opinion . 👍🤠
