Pullet vs cockeral

Ok so I'm watching my young silkies and watching some spar with one another. What is everyones experience, are these males?

I don't know really, because I've only ever had two cockerels together once, and yes, they did sometimes spar, but my current two pullet hopefuls often do the chest bump thing too. I think it's like a bit of entertainment for them.

My Old English Bantam girls were horrible as pullets. They fought much more than the boys did. Once they started laying it stopped.

My silkies spar regardless of sex. All the young ones go at it. It's pecking order jockeying. I always think they are boys and then I keep watching and they act pullet like. You can use that to sex silkies......I've been tricked before!

No, the girls do it too, and will often be the ones to start the shoving match. Let them get a little hungry and then put food down. The ones that make the "hey, come get this food!" noise are boys. Or broody mamas lol. Pullet chicks just chow down without thought to anyone else's belly, but the boys will instinctively try to bring girls to the food.

Good to know, will have to try that.
