It isn't until you actually see some of those places it brings home how far they had to cross under heavy gunfire. We were shocked when we went to Normandy.

I know there must have been Canadians on all 5 beaches, but in my memory banks, I think the main Canadian beach was Bene Sur Mer? I know that's where my uncle went ashore. Wasn't Juno mainly American? I will google to check myself out after.

Just before I go though, that uncle, well decorated, said there was no such thing as a hero, only those that did their jobs and others that didtn. Interesting viewpoint, from someone who had the right to have an opinion.

My Uncle who was my dad's identical twin landed on the beaches of Normandy that catastrophic day. He managed to make it to Caan where he was wounded. In his later years a couple of his sons took my uncle to Normandy for a D-Day celebration.
