I give my chickens "mush" every night before I close them up. It's just chicken crumble or pellets mixed with warm water to the consistency of thick porridge. They love it and eagerly wait for it. My old girls are on a high platform with stairs leading up to it and a roost just a couple inches above the platform. This way they feel they have a high, superior roost spot and can see out the windows but they don't have to jump and hurt themselves. They eat their mush out of an old blue bowl I've had kicking around for years. I gave that to them because each night they wait for me on their platform and grumble for their mush they remind me of a fiesty little lady that lived in the Alzhiemer ward with my dad. Every meal Marie would shout out "small blue bowl please" and she wouldn't stop all the way through the meal until she finally got dessert which was always served to the residents in small blue bowls.

Ha! Ha! Yes they do grumble and complain when things take too long.
