Well Baron I understand perfectly, enjoy your free time.
Enjoy my free time?! roflmbo

Bottom line my parents are in their mid 80’s and my mom is hard of hearing so a fox had an easy time last summer while I was away at work. Can’t count on them to lock up as they did. Have to make a 24/7 coop yard that I don’t need to lock at night as I work most evenings. Might as well make a pheasant yard as that’s my favourite of birds to keep. And Carla wants peafowl - so this is really a reboot.

There’s a massive to do list outside of that - including brooder setup in the barn - the smell and dust in the house is just too much. Actually plan a brooder room in the basement with “one way” ventilation so air goes in the room then outdoors. Thats the only sensible setup to manage if the power goes out (or back up batteries/generator).

Not to mention all the rest that I should do so I can really enjoy living here.

Yes well I know, no rest just different jobs to do. But once you do get a predator free coop you will enjoy it more but as Ross says , do it in moderation.

actually, I have an evil plan - not a predator free coop - but a coop with a small secure storage room with a predator trap opening - so ‘coons think they are breaking in and walk right into a trap.

A smart guy should know when to take a knee; nothing wrong with that. You are coming back so enjoy the break and thank you for your previous offer of your geese and advise. I hear you on the brooder in the house - the dust in our house is unbelievable! I'm planning to move it to the coop soon here. In the mean time I switched from chopped straw to shavings which has helped reduce the dust.

My buddy does exactly that, setup looks like a hole for the raccoon to break into but it's a trap, gets them all the time.
