Dropped in to say Hello, been gone for a long time!

Post by Poultryprincess » Sat Mar 30, 2019 10:55 pm

HELLO PTO, sorry I've been AWOL....a lot of changes have been happening!

Going to try to condense what's been going on.
NO did not sell our little farm. I enjoyed reading some of your suggestions
Real Estate Market has changed & now it's just Low Ball offers ( we missed the boom AGAIN - LOL)
Looks like we will be sitting here til the cows come home or one of us drops dead.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a BD Bucket list, for my 65th Birthday (March 7)

#1 - was to find my mother Lenora Jennings, whom I've not seen since 1964
#2 - to find my 1/2 brother who mom gave up for adoption before I was born
#3 - sell the house & have enough $ to enjoy retirement
#4 - to "Travel'", see some of the world while I'm still healthy
#5 - lose 50 lbs
#6 - become mellow, spiritual & spend time with loved ones
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#1 - I've been doing Extensive searches, enlisted helpers, scoured court files,
in the last 18 months since my dad died, I have NOT found Any info on my mom, she vanished
BUT I "did" find a poop load of Maternal cousins living in the USA
Last Oct I went to a "Jennings Family Reunion" & it was Divine!

#2 - I wrote to my Best DNA match on Ancestry once a month for 6 months.
NO answers, until last August....I FOUND my Brother Steve
Chatted on the phone & found out he lived in Vancouver BC
Just happened I had trip to Vancouver the next week to visit Paternal cousins
SO I met & spent time with Brother Steve & we chat every Saturday
His adoption was not a happy one, & he's excited to have biological family

#3 - Real Estate Market dropped & hubby wants to wait til it goes back up before selling - in a HUNDRED YEARS :focus:

#4 - still waiting for the "Travel" ....but I did go to Vancouver to see family
I also traveled to Chicago to visit my NEW found Maternal cousins Had a GREAT time

#5 - well I kinda missed the boat on 50 lbs, but I DID lose 43 lbs.
Been on KETO diet for 9 months & have not gained or lost for the last 2 months
Gonna get back to business but just coasting right now, BTW I LUV Keto!

#6 - the life style change is a work in progress. Don't know "why" but it's where I need to be.
I want to enjoy the small things, doing crafts, seeing friends, watching my chickens.
At the same time I want to see Italy, hold hands on the beach & just ENJOY being ALIVE!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now you all know "where" I've been & "what" I've been doing this past year
OH & THANK YOU, I was pleasantly Surprised to see Birthday wishes when I signed in today
Guess I have a lot to read up on what the PTO members have been doing in my absence!
OR you could just let me know here....can't wait to see what I've missed

well Gidday eh! If you’re waiting for real estate to get back to where it was ....good luck! The last real real estate crash was 1989 and it was 2009 when it got back there. Sell low and buy low and enjoy life (or what’s left of it)!

Welcome back. Real estate prices are still very strong in our area. Sure they maybe dropped a little bit with the new qualifying rules but 5-10% atmost. Now they are talking of lowering interest rates again. I think the spring market will be strong with higher prices. If you wait until the next recession hits then I expect 20-30% drop in prices and 10+ years to recover. The banks will do everything they can to prevent prices dropping below that as they don't care about peoples equity but will protect theirs investments.

When we wanted to move and buy a crappy farm a couple of years ago we were told that our 5 acres is worth nothing (in our sale) but worth a lot in the potential purchase! We didn't move. Problem for us is when we open our mouths we have English accents after 30 years but they will educate us to property sales in Canada.
And good work on the other things @Poultryprincess

Longcrow is right - there is a recession in the nearer future and real estate prices will drop
OR - farmers will abandon farming hot and dry places (California, Texas, etc) where they irrigate and water is running low - and buy in places where you can grow food and still get rain or lots of water to irrigate - and our land prices will keep rising
OR more farming will go to container farming, complete indoor - 3 dimensional farming - and more farming will happen in cities close to markets - so our real estate prices won’t move

if you want to really know the future - buy a Farmer’s Almanac :)
