Thank you. I’ve thought about getting them for a couple of years now and just happened to see the ad on Kijiji. I actually traded white Indian runners (which I had a surplus of) for them. I’m very pleased so far!

I can just picture their tail feathers waving in a breeze outside.

They look like the chickens that run all over the towns in Ecuador and other south American countries. Very hardy, great foragers and free range. Ok for laying but not superstars. Its also the ones they keep for cock fighting, or similar looking birds anyway. Guessing they will be hardy in our climate, but not sure. Glad to see someone doing something different than leghorn easter eggers. Good luck with them, keep us posted.

Farrier1987. South of Chatham on Lake Erie. Chickens, goats, horse, garden, dog, cat. Worked all over the world. Know a little bit about a lot of things. No incubator, broody hens.

Thank you. Yes they seem quite thrifty already and appear to be maturing quickly. The guy I got them from said his father just lets them run free from spring to fall. He said they choose to roost in the trees and that the hens disappear and return with broods of chicks throughout the season. I have always preferred birds that resemble the original wild type, in all breeds. I was worried about flightiness and them distrusting me, but I’ve discovered that just like any other being, treats and a calm demeanour have won them over. All other beings other than my Indian runners🙄 DRAMATIC birds they are!
