House birds

Post by kenya » Sun Jan 20, 2019 2:34 pm

How many do you have in the house? I have 7, I went out to feed and found 3 very cold birds all huddled up. Took them in the house and anyone else I thought was a candidate to get cold. 5 silkies and 1 cornish hen and her 2 month old chick. I know it seems like I'm spoiling them but rather this then dead birds when I have a nice warm spot for them till the cold snap breaks. I might bring in more depends on how everyone looks.
I hate to think I might have left a few out that need to come in.

One elderly blind turkey, 2 moms co-parenting seven (almost 2 months old I think) chicks, and 11 Emden goslings ranging in age from 3 days old to 4 weeks. Two more goslings due by January 26, and 3 more due February 7th-ish.

When the last AI was going through I must admit we were planning for moving turkeys into the garage and the chickens into the house so they would all be undercover! Gail, your birds are very lucky to have you!

We're having enough trouble with flock dynamics ATM, so won't be bringing anyone indoors (even though if we had the room, I'm pretty sure they'd ALL be moving inside ;-) ), but we are going to be shuffling around one of our flat panel heaters from the baby coop to the main coop tonight, so in addition to our 400W flat panel heater there be a 200W panel heater in where our old Silkie and the two Brabanter youngsters spend the night.

OC I still have lots out and they are doing fine, I think as Ross said on another post the silkies get their crest wet then can't take the cold, and of course the showgirls with their naked necks.
I hope the weather warms up , my poor dog was out for a pee and within minutes had that sad look on her face like Oh my goodness my feet are frozen, times like this I'm glad I don't have a puppy.
