I have a huge double layer tarp that I use when I get wood delivered. I just tossed it in a big ball in a shed before Christmas. I got wood delivered and when I went to cover the wood, the tarp was absolutely full of shh...

. The folds in the tarp were filled like it nd been there for a year. It looked like mouse poo only bigger. Right away I was thinking rats! After a few minutes I realized that the tarp was not damaged at all, also there is a cardboard box sitting next to the tarp and it's untouched and no holes in the ground. I don't think that's rats, I think they would chew everything. What do you think?

I can try tomorrow Ross but it's just like mouse crap only slightly bigger. Maybe voles? There are red squirrels around but I think they would chew the tarp a little.

Chipmunks? Crush between your fingers and smell it, mouse and rat poo is distinctive. Now people will wonder how I know!

, of course KB has a good sense of smell! A poo Sommelier! Are you teaching any courses? Only a farmer (or gardener) could appreciate good poo and its many uses from growing plants to making gunpowder to biogas to run a car. If only the rest of the world could see poo as a resource and not a "waste" to be disposed of.
Only "modern man" would pump natural gas from the ground to make ammonia for fertilizer and throw away perfectly good poo be the source human, pig, chicken, cows, or numerous others. (I am told the best poo for giant pumpkins is elephant poo. Better to make friends at a zoo to win the next fair contest.)

my bet is voles-rats tunnel everything. mice chew a lot too but here the voles just seem to hang out and put hay in strange places for nests....field rats also chew less but their

looks like raisin-size.
thinking of critters i have a mouse in my stove....gah

The good thing about voles is that they are carnivorous; they have munched on mice that had been caught in traps in our basement. Not that we want voles in our basement, though!
