We had a pile a dried human size of 2 hockey rinks & 30 ft high in middle over near Watford . Think all gone now . Waited for colder weather I guess t spread . Covered with hay bale tarps like Kathy’s & covered in tires to hold down like silage pile .

My vote is voles as well. They tunnel, but have a separate 'bathroom' as it were.
