I forgot to wish everyone a Happy Solstice and Mid summer Day although it doesn't seem like it yet. We used to live near Old Sarum and this was a very important Festival for the area.

Good luck to her. Mine is still solid on some turkey eggs but not due for a while. Not sure what I was thinking giving her turkey egg, I'm already up to 25 babies this year (yes OC and some for you but I don't speak of that to them LOL).

Good morning! Staining a fence this weekend so I'm very happy to see the forecast. We are also getting a whack of trees taken down today. Close to 30 in all. Some dead, some dying (ash and pine) and some thinning out to let some beautiful maples take over. I never like to see live trees come down but it's time. Hubby is just coming back with a rented chipper so my gardens will get some much needed mulch topping.
I have a blue bird nesting in a box in my front yard. I have tried for years to attract them. The only other time they nested here my damned cat managed to catch and kill the female. That was about 15 years ago and they've scouted my yard every spring but never stayed. I'm thrilled to hear their warbling song every morning and hope to see babies soon. They will have to be my chick fìx this year as I've managed to stay strong and not allow my broodies to get their way. One little girl started peeping and doing the broody scurry last night though and it will be my 3rd battle with her since March. At one point I had 5 girls to break. I feel bad not letting them hatch but I really have nowhere to house a mom and babies and refuse to leave them in general population. That just seems like a recipe for heartbreak...theirs and mine.

I hear you on taking down live trees, it took me several years to break down and have two large spruce trees cut down, but they were obviously on their way to be living inside the house with us. After the tornado last September, I finally forgave myself. ;)
You are lucky you have a different species of trees, driving by some whole rows of Ash at some point it must have seemed like a good idea to plant along a very long driveway, now they are all dead, not a pretty picture.
Just a reminder why nature doesn't practice mono culture.

I have several dead Ash on the edge of my property that borders conservation land . I now give um a shake once in awhile to see if rotted at ground . Pushed a 30 ‘ one over yesterday by hand back into bush . Paul Bunyan style lol .

Just got back from a Raptor show in Kemptville, absolutely excellent. Had never been that close to a Golden Eagle before, they are HUGE!

We had to have 18 ash trees all cut down this year, they were huge and beautiful. Such a shame but all dead or dying, we have replaced with red oak, ginko, blue spruce, linden and locus tree.
