@JimW
you may want to stay away from "Choke cherry" terribly invasive, the birds love them and spread the seeds EVERYwhere.....

I had a pin cherry, not sure if it's related. It ws the "Plant from Hell"! Put it where we thought it was fine but it tried to invade the path and everywhere. I am ashamed to say that I had to apply herbicide X for 3 years to get rid of it even after cut down.

Very closely related, spread by root and seed, happy anywhere, looks lovely in bloom in the ditches, if only it would stay there ;)

Thanks for the tip OC. I am planting for wildlife food and to make jelly eventually. The spot I have planned for it hopefully it will take off and choke out the European buckthorn growing.

Glad you have a date jim! i just found out last week that I'm going in for an ablation (to stop the arrhythmia) on monday afternoon! eep! surprise. so hastily booked time off work, moved an exam that i had scheduled for my college class and i have no idea if i'm ready for this or not. but hopefully it works and i don't have to worry about going into atrial flutter again (which in itself is super uncomfortable). So i think my hunting season is over for this year. Drs all say it's a fast (like 2-3 day) recovery for mine....i hope they're right! i hope your surgery goes smoothly @JimW!

Watch out for milkweed. plant 1 and have millions LOL. we cut ours before they go to seed (ours are wild though). they spread underground by root too, so our few are now a few clumps that i keep pulling many every year, leave a few for the monarchs, but they LOVE our sand and if they go to seed we're battling them en force the next year. i guess if you have a spot with thorns it's not a bad thing to smother them out LOL. We also planted a pile of trees this past year. Hint-drill a small hole in the bottom of a 12 liter or 16 liter bucket. then fill up the bucket once every 2 days for water. we put a brick in the bucket to stop them from blowing away, and then a horse trough filled in the bucket of the tractor and drove around and filled the buckets every other night. the trees seem to be doing okay. hopefully they'll survive the winter. it sure helped on the watering to have the buckets there.

Got my OSC, Veseys and TNTseeds catalogues in the mail yesterday! YAY! now spring can come! ha ha
need to clean some pens this weekend. i now have a chicken in with the ducks. 3 chickens in with turkeys. some chickens outside free ranging. and finally no ducks or turkeys in with the horses......and i think the horses are still in the field....and finally no turkeys roosting on the roof of the barn......still chaos. lol. wouldn't have it any other way!
