My 2 Ameraucanas haven't laid yet either. Of course Mumsy is still taking a break and having a little honeymoon with Frank!

So far my Ameraucana hasn't shown any interest in laying again either.
Charlie has taken to pestering my two hens that are laying. It's pretty obvious that neither of them much like him. Cilla is still the only one who hangs out with him at all. I wonder how long that will last once she reaches maturity ...

I am not sure what to make of it, the Ameraucanas and Wyandottes always had a really good "taking turns" system, Wyandottese would go in to molt end of summer, while the Ameraucanas continued to lay and by the time Ameraucanas gave up the good fight the Wyandottes started again.
Nothing here has changed, accept the Ameraucanas are getting a bit older, but not so old as to stop laying all together.

The only conclusion I can come up with, is that the Wyandottes being a "dual purpose" heritage breed, have much more history behind them, then the Ameraucanas "dual purpose" relatively new breed, the emphases was more on the look then production??

Well Clanger has discovered girls and like a typical teenager hasn't realised that classy girls like Kibbles & Bitts need dinner & a dance! Much squawking when he rushed down to their coop this am. Silly boy.

My day started with finding Lily, our White English quail, covered in blood around her right eye and all down her chest and part way down her back, so in she came for cleanup and closer inspection, It looks like that bottom eyelid that got ripped the last time she was in for treatment has gotten infected and swollen.
I focussed on getting the eye cleaned and applying some Polysporin Stye. Last time it didn't appear infected so she went back to gen pop the same day. This time she'll be inside and treated 4 times a day until the infection is under control. Fingers crossed.
So, now on with what I had originally planned for today. Looking forward to the high of -4, though it apparently won't reach that until 4 o'clock.
Have a good one, all!

Hope Lily gets better soon, Jaye.
And here I was ready to post a "woohoo!" because I got 7 eggs yesterday, 2 from my 3 yr. old BSL's. Spring is on the way.

My ameraucana laid her first egg this morning! Also the first of the year! Maybe she’ll get the others on track to start laying again.

@Jaye you can hire yourself out as a first responder for avian emergencies with your experiences :)
Egg production ramping up, spring can't be too far away, sun is shining, although looks like that's not going to last.

Clanger seems to have moved in with Kibbles & Bitts and 52. Frank doesn't like them much so maybe he won't beat him up too badly? We'll see what this evening brings at cooptime!
