My partner really doesn't understand when I get up at 5:30am every morning to let my birds out. They are Chickens! They can wait a little longer......it's true they can wait; it's me that can't. I love the time I spend with my 'just birds'. I need to make sure they are ok and have spend a good night. They get food and water with morning treats. If I can't be found in the house, I've disappeared to 'chicken land' often not to be seen again for hours

Me an my falcon agree. And especially with Brebis. And the costs, dollar wise? Do you have any idea what a therapist would charge for what my goats and chickens do to help me? Or the cost to society for policing me and maybe incarcerating me? Me an my falcon an my goats and society as a whole are winners.

Lol! Very true on the “Sometimes it’s not nice” Happy! They have told me to “Bawk, bawk, bawk, BAWK OFF!” on many occasions!

I'm always talking to the chickens. They get to know my voice, and I get to know theirs. There is one red hen that is very tame around me. She will come up to me, get my attention with a few gentle pecks, and stand beside me while I am in the enclosure. I could be checking for eggs, "fluffing" the shavings in the nesting boxes, or just standing, watching the activities.
Recently, I scooched down to watch the flock, and the hen stood beside me. She lets me pat her. So I decided to put her on my lap; she was in no hurry to jump off. I think maybe I save her from the frisky young roosters.
All of our chickens, eventually, end up on the dinner table, and I have no problem with that.
We have 3 more roosters to cull. Then we will have a young, desirable one left.

If and whenever some one ws to say to me "it's just a chicken" in my head they would instantly drop down a few notches on the scale of human sensitivity...its this horrible thing that humans have developed over the centuries that says that we matter more than anything else, when in fact, we dont matter any more that any other creature on the planet...when people say stuff like that it just illustrates that very lack of empathy and consideration...it shows that they have never given it any thought at all, or worse, that if they have and disregarded the result then they drop even further verging on 'imbecile'...we may be able to over whelm the chicken with our power, but that doesnt lessen the chicken in the great scheme of things and to assign its importance by virtue of our screwed up system of economics is even worse...just a few weeks ago, i cam home to find a dead bird in the coop and i mourned...I thanked her departing spirit for her life and gifts and then I took her into the woods to become a meal for the scavenging needs of the inhabitants of the forest...a complete circle I think...and I don't think that she would complain if she could, I certainly wouldn't...anyway, just some thoughts...the older i get, the more i dislike humanity and like my dogs and chickens soooo much more.. :run:
