I consider that particular Mark Twain quote a useful mantra, and have repeated it to myself on a number of occasions when dealing with some of my more "know-it-all" work colleagues.

There’s lots said that todays kids need “safe spaces” and can’t handle some stuff. We grew up in a “transition period” from racist and politically incorrect wording (and thinking) everywhere to a place/time where there’s a lot less (except from Trumpists !). And we don’t take things too seriously. we said a childhood rhyme - eenie meenie minie moe, catch a ______ by the toe, wow in hindsight.
We hear old folks use language, and we’re not offended when they use wording we don’t.

Well as to cultural insensitivity it is alive and well in Brockville. I have been asked which church I belong too and not being a religious person have been harangued for not being good god fearing Christian! This has happened a few times and I've taken to saying I'm Wiccan . I feel that a persons religion is very personal and not necessarily to be shared, bashed etc. I don't mean any offence to any of our members but I discovered that the Constitution grants freedom of religion not freedom from religion.
My other laugh was an older woman who deliberately started smashing her shopping cart into me when I was selecting something in a grocery store, she then told me very unpleasantly to get out of her way. I said in my own way what she could do (I am from Britain so guess). Another woman then oared in to tell me that I was terrible to the poor old lady and she was disgusted at my use of such language etc. etc. and that in Canada swearing is not allowed in public (actually true)! I informed her that since I was originally from the UK this was my right as it's my cultural heritage. If anyone has ever been to a Polo match in Britain esp. with any Aristocracy involved they will know what I mean.
I agree when there are kids around stuff needs modifying, not sure if I'm one of the "Old Folks"?
