Just a bit more on the organic turkeys, purchased one few years back, absolutely the best meat ever, interestingly compared at the table to moose meat as far as depth of taste, stock from the bones amazing.
Was quite prepared to pay whatever the price was again, BUT the cost of feed didn't make it feasible for the producer so they stopped doing it, knowing g the work it takes I can't really blame them.

Turns out oldest son is hosting Thanksgiving at his cottage and my contribution is apple strudel, so easy one on me.
I still have a thigh from one of Gill's turkeys (note how carefully I worded this, the first version had Gill's thigh in it ;)
that should make a nice "dinner" for DH and me, so happy Thanksgiving to me :)

Yes, we just had a change of plans too. Got an invite to a Pot Luck some friends are having with some of their neighbours and it's afternoon so we can be back to put birds away!

I'm hoping by next year I can serve up a couple of home-grown roosters to our brood. But for this year, I'm doing it the lazy way, cook from frozen pre-stuffed. With all the traditional fixings of course, including mashed potatoes with gravy, glazed carrots, turnip, coleslaw, and an extra batch of sweet stuffing that my family loves, oh...and who can forget the homemade bread!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, is $3.49/lb a good price for organic free-range turkey?
YES. Holy :sSig_censored: yes. Dirt cheap.

We have not yet decided who what will be on the menu for Thanksgiving. The meat and vegetables will all be our own, except for potatoes, onions and cranberries. Always our best feast of the year, everything still fresh, and to me, the huge glut of food is a necessary part of the tradition as it represents a bountiful harvest. Nothing ever goes to waste, even onion skins get eaten by the resident pet goat. I LOVE LOVE LOVE thanksgiving leftovers.

We are having our Thanksgiving supper on Sunday and then we have leftovers on Monday. I am cooking a stuffed turkey with gravy and a ham along with some of the veggies from our garden, potatoes, carrots, peas and beets. I hope to make deviled eggs and for desert pumpkin and apple pies from the pie pumpkins we grew and apples from my son's trees. I love Thanksgiving!

My contribution to the Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday is an apple strudel, using our own apples took just as long as if I was making a whole Thanksgiving meal.
2 of the 5 I made, what was I thinking? DH called it the great Canadian baking show
and ate all the ends :-)

Will be roasting a Cornish Hen on Monday, it's an all-out effort at "downsizing" ;)

You caught me, I am afraid this Cornish comes from our friendly neighborhood butcher ;)

Oh and we said we wanted to stay in the pop-up trailer until Thanksgiving - we are still there! Not sure why we have a house we haven't slept in since June LOL.
