Slowly but surely...

Well, yesterday evening i came home and as usual went to chk on the birds and see what the 'yield' was for the day....it's been meager the last few weeks as this heat has stressed the girls quite noticeably...anyway..typical 10 eggs so not bad, but....an olive one..YEEHAW!, Olive is out of her broody mode...can you believe 2-1/2 months?... i have a customer with a young daughter who looks into every carton of a dozen to see if there is a green egg..somehow it tickles her fancy but hey, who am I to question a child...lol...anyway, it was finally done...back to normal...then tonight as i went out at dusk to lock up the birds for the night I only counted 10 rocks on the roosts...a sense of foreboding came apon me and i immediately hit the spotlight and went out looking...remember, if you will, I started with 25 dayold Rocks from Bonnies back in June '15 and had 3 roosters in the bunch...I sold 8 and so had 14 left and in the time since i had lost 3...today i found a fourth, cold and stiff wdged under the coop ramp...not sure what killed her but she knew it was coming just by her finding the place to die...well damn!... They are great birds...wondering how the rest will last...they have laid up a storm and are lovely to tend...not flighty or harsh in any way...i do love them but i won't name them or I am sure I would be shedding tears thus evening..anyway..a prayer for a good bird can't hurt... :rip:

Oh sorry Tom. I number them now (well mostly) but that still doesn't help!

Oh no, Tom. Sorry to hear about this. Like others have said, named or not, it's still hard to lose them.

Sorry for your loss.

I lost my Snowy this week too, but shes never been quite right since I got her last fall. On a good note, my other girls are starting to lay too, after raising their families earlier this summer.

I missed this post somehow, and can't remember if I offered condolences when we discussed it in person (menopause brain). RIP little hen
