Turkeys Got Hit

Post by KimChick » Sat Jun 30, 2018 8:49 am

A sad morning. Just when you think all is secure....
We lost 3 of our little turkeys last night. It seems to be the year of the predator. Since being on this forum and others, I have never seen so many posts about losing birds. We just put our little guys outside earlier this week, too.
This is our turkey enclosure that was wrapped in corn crib with chicken wire behind.

This is where the break-in happened. Animal squeezed in the front corner by the lightening ground rod, got through corn crib, & ripped off chicken wire.

The metal fabric is what DH put on this morning and will be stapling it. The dead birds were left in the enclosure by the predator, two in one corner, one in another.
This is what was left of 3 little turkeys with heads eaten off.

We are thinking something in the weasel family to be able to squeeze through the corn crib that is still stapled.

So sorry to hear that you lost your turkeys. I can imagine how upset you must be.
I think you may be right about it being a weasel. Weasels can easily get through corn cribbing - they're amazing contortionists when motivated. The poultry hex netting won't keep much out of a chicken pen; many predators can and will chew right through it. It's only good for keeping chickens in. Many people will recommend putting up 1/2" welded wire. That will be too small for most anything to get through.

Sum beech .. Pic of some of my predator control , Dog , small trap for small coons , larger one for fox & coyote , medium for possum & cats (not in pic) at bush line . 2 smaller ones for weasels in barn . Also a couple of trail cams at strategic places to trace night time critter movement . Last but not least the 12 ga . Nothing's 100% but helps .luck
