Country Wisdom!!!

Post by Killerbunny » Sun Jun 24, 2018 8:33 am

Well we have so far caught 2 racoons in the turkey pen. Friday night a 3rd got trapped. It escaped by bending the door on the trap! Door is now reinforced. However we were chatting to another "farming family" neighbour who told us that he'd got rid of a female and 6 kits from his barn - great. He then decided to educate me by saying they are after the eggs. I told him I was more worried about the turkey poults and adult birds than eggs. He then said that no they never go after anything other than the eggs and certainly never chicks or adults!!!!!! I said I knew of people who suffered substantial losses to racoons. He clearly didn't believe me and just kept on about the eggs. DH managed to stop me asking him if he was a complete f**king idiot. I ues that was obvious. This is not an old chap either. I wish there was a head slap icon!

I think this one might help, with tiny bit of a risk of a headache.
I remember, being a newly arrived city bumpkin in the seventies, the favorite saying in these parts was, " my pappy did it this way ....." didn't take long to learn that it meant " I am not planning to learn any darn NEW thing, EVER !

Well pouring rain here, the hens with chicks are mad because I won't let them outside. I had to rescue them yesterday because they were all hunkered down in the rain with the chicks under them. Everyone was soaked, they could have gone inside but no instead they stayed out in the rain. Silly birds.

Well I wish someone had told the 4 raccoons that killed 2 adult chickens and 2 young adult turkeys here that they don't kill the birds just eat the eggs. My local raccoons apparently don't know this.
