Oops, no. I the way I worded that was a bit ambiguous. They are actually in an outdoor enclosure right beside the deck, so when both tarp flaps are up, we can watch them doing their thing in their run from where we are sitting on the deck. We do have a quail tractor on the list of things to build, but for the moment we are just making their enclosure as enriched an environment as we can. They appear to be happy - they are all laying like crazy ATM. Hubby likes doing the egg hunt every evening. The only hen that lays in the same spot regularly is Avro (my one remaining hen from the original quad of Pharoah/Wild colour variety quail that I bought last fall); the rest (Golden Italian colour variety) like to lay them wherever, and often bury them in the wood chips or in the bedding in the house.

How many do you have now Jaye? I’m still enamoured with the idea of quail! I didn’t think you could let them out in the yard but with you there’s no telling lol.

We have six at the moment. Started with three Pharoah colour variety hens and one Pharoah rooster, and added four Golden Italian colour variety hens and one Golden Italian rooster. We are down to five hens now, four of which are Golden Italian, and one Pharoah rooster, Benny.
