Just spoke for some chicks....advice please??

Post by Penny » Fri May 18, 2018 11:38 am

I just spoke for 5 blue ameraucana chicks that are 5-6 weeks old. He sent 2 photos of them, one fully feathered and another that still has quite a bit of fluff. I do not have a heat lamp, but I do have an insulated (but not heated) tack room to put them into. I was thinking they will be OK in a wire dog crate if I give them a box to go into and crowd together at nights. Night temps supposed to get as low as 9C. Does this sound feasible or do I need to do more?

Mostly a guess on my part, but I think they should be ok. If you put shavings farily deep (6in?) so they do not lose heat from below, they should be ok. Good luck with it.

Find out if they have any heat ATM because you don't want to give them a harsh transition which could stress them in addition to the stress from a move. They won't need a lot at this point though.
