Tick ATTACK!?!

I know some of you down in the banana belt of Ontario have warm weather and no snow but here we have had lots of snow until Thursday and still some cold days. Imagine then how surprised a young couple near me was to find a tick growing behind their little girl's ear. They had been walking through the bush which still had lots of snow and it latched on to her. I was shocked, I didn't think this could happen. However they reported that ticks usually don't die from the cold, apparently their blood is like antifreeze which allows them to come after you even in -7 Celsius temperatures. Fortunately the tick tested negative for Lime disease.
I just saw the news warning about your pets, I say never mind the pets, watch your kids and grandkids! Anyway, if ticks are active here, they must be planning a parade in the rest of the areas south of here!

My pets ARE my kids and grandkids. Thanks for the heads up. Starting Bravecto sooner rather than later now.

I pulled one off the cat about two weeks ago, and I am most definitely NOT in the banana belt. I'm closer to the Balls off a Brass Monkey belt lol

Ugh! Using Advantix II on my two. I tried to go natural for years, and got away with it for a long time - until Abbey tested positive for Lyme about 3 years ago

. She's fine after treatment, but I think we need all the help we can get with these horrid insects!

This year and last year we were pulling ticks off dogs in February at the clinic I work at.
Already started giving my dogs Bravecto in February, think I am just going to give it year round

Maybe it's a good thing that we have -26 wind chills here. I haven't seen any insects yet.

Yeah just did the bravecto last night with dinner for my lab. It is amazingly one of the pills he eats willingly. I like that its every 3 months....but iwill need to get more because this year i think we will end up giving him at least 9 months worth! We had ticks in december last year!
