Hey everyone, I'm thinking of joining the APA and maybe the ABA, what are the advantages of joining? And this may sound stupid but do you need to be an American? Lol I don't know I wanted to hear what other people's opinions were maybe some PTO members are already signed up?

Perhaps they have websites you could check out- but I'm sure you can be Canadian and join both. If you were thinking of showing it would probably be a good idea to join.

No you don't need to be an American to join the APA. I joined because a group of us with the North American Basque Hen Association are trying to get them recognized by the APA and was told as a breeder I should be a member in good standing for at least five years. Other than that they do send you out a nice annual yearbook with lots of good information in it.

im a member of the APA and so is my wife Lizzie, Happy Homesteader on here. Were not into exhibiting poultry yet but we are seriously working with Heritage Rhode Island Reds and Beltsville Small White Turkeys. Breeding to the standard while maintaining the heritage qualities and are planning on showing as soon as we are very confident in what we are producing. we thought it would be a good idea to join up so we could learn more about it all. was it worth it? well I think so, they send out year books and there is quite a few good reads in them. im starting to understand the points system and all that... what makes a master breeder ect ect... pretty cool really. so I think it all comes down to your goals as to whether its worth it or not.
