I’m glad they have finally allowed them. If I still lived there I’d certainly have some!

Just down the street from where we lived in Toronto a few years ago, there was one house that had a raised basement and you’d often see a hen or two sitting in the window! This was a predominantly Italian/Portuguese neighbourhood so went along with the big garden, grape vines and tobacco plants!

It's funny, the main reason that suburban areas don't want roosters is because of the "noise", but I have and have had, hens that are much louder than most of the cockerels that come of age here, and they can carry on for quite a while with their egg songs. I do get it about roosters and noise levels, but IMHO they're no louder than barking dogs or lawn tractors or snowmobiles. Personally, I'd much rather hear a rooster crow than any of the aforementioned noises.

I agree hens can be noisy! My young 3 are perfecting their egg songs and it seems to be a half day long competition lol. I gotta say though that one rooster isn't too loud. For every rooster you add to that (and that includes a neighbor's rooster within ear shot) the noise level goes up x 100. My two are in a crowing competition for most of the day. And if the wind is blowing the right way they can hear my neighbors roosters and they swear at each other all day long. I can only imagine what that could get like in the city.
