Tom - one thing to add to your piece - politicians passed the “bill” back in ‘94 and thats a big piece of land taxes today. Trudeau and Chretien passed “responsibilities” but not revenues (i.e. gas taxes) down to provinces - so provincies passed bills down to municipalities/cities (roads, bridges, welfare (social assistance) etc.) and the muni’s hit the “wealthy” property owners. The feds balanced their books (“tadaa”! like a magician) then started cutting income taxes (like the yanks) and its been a race to the bottom since.

And like all magicians (and pickpockets) you are distracted by the left hand while the right hand moves fast.

thus we live in a world of distraction - sports teams, tv, internet, facebook, etc. while the big important things get put off, forgotten, shoved under a rug, or talking heads blame the wrong folks (or deny the problem exists)

while corporations overpay the executives and look for any way “legal” to avoid taxes.
