Hens with holes on back
Hi
I have another hen with a hole on her back/side
Treated the last one with blue kote and it healed up pretty good.
The skin gets peeled right off from rooster mating
Now the same with this one
Has anyone run into this
I have 29 hens with only one rooster so I'm quite surprised this is happening
Any way to deal with this?
Prefer not to put "clothes" on them. Lol
Read about trimming roosters toenails
He's not even a year old yet so not sure if this is the issue or not
Maybe his "method". Gaha
And no I'm not going to teach him how to "do it" any differently
Thanks

No expert, but think the rooster's spurs need to be trimmed /removed.

Put some chicken saddles on those hens would be my suggestion. If you rooster is only a year his spurs should not be too long but if you could trim the sharp points off if he has them. Also trim his nails

Sounds like your boy needs his nails trimmed and his spurs filed down.....just make sure to trim the nails flat so they arent sharp.

Re: Hens with holes on back
Might be the rooster, but maybe other hens? The aggressive ones up the pecking order love to nail the others in the middle of the back. Not often, but if one is just too hard on the others I will trim the beak a little with my side cutters. Are they confined? I always find that it gets worse if cooped up. Just a thought.
