Chickens do funny things

Post by Shnookie » Sun Jan 21, 2018 9:41 am

Yesterday when I went in to check for eggs, the dominant blue Ameraucana pullet was circling around my feet, looking up like she was expecting a treat (I didn’t have any with me). Then I noticed she was getting ready to jump. She was looking at my face. Just for a laugh, I put my arm out like you would for a falcon or something. She flew straight up 4 feet and landed on my arm. I laughed so hard. She just sat there until I walked over and put my arm near the roost, then she hopped off. She has never done it before. I wonder what that was about. I also wonder if I hadn’t put my arm out where she would have landed!

Maybe she has been hanging around the EO's too much. That's an EO trait, well it is at least with mine! LOL

None of my other hens have ever done this, and this pullet has hardly been handled. She is the dominant one in the pen so maybe she thought she was getting ahead of the rest for a treat.

roflmbo If coming from the front, they'll generally aim for the shoulder, and come up an inch or two short--hanging on with claws while vigorously flapping your face in an effort to gain the coveted perch. If coming from behind, they generally aim for your head, which usually results in chicken, shavings and dried poop all tangled up in your hair or the hood of your coat.

Diligently follow the path of two swords as one. Percieve that which the eye cannot see. Seek the truth in all things. Do not engage in useless activity.
