Checking on Interest for Ontario order from Alberta (Duckopolis)

Post by 41714049 » Wed Jan 10, 2018 9:09 pm

Hello All,

I am just checking to see if anyone would be interested in an order from Duckopolis in Alberta. For the purpose of saving on shipping. I could pick up from Toronto or Ottawa... so either one works for me. If there will be enough interest, I will decide to go forward and post on Wanted section...

Thanks!

P.S. If anyone doesn't think Duckopolis is any good, let me know too.

The kid started at age 10 and now he's 22 (plus obvious support from his family)!

That could have been me! (I certainly wanted to do similiar things at that age.)

Can a small farmer do quality and volume with a variety of birds? I don't think so. But with internet connections its a lot easier to find great breeding stock to start with. And if they grow their own grain they have a head start.

I am happy to be proven wrong. I'd buy something from them if I needed something.

:iagree:
Quality from a hatchery? The exception rather than the rule, but utility? Usually ;)
They have Embdens, and I wouldn't mind adding some new blood in my little flock. They're hard to find here, and all my birds are from Performance. They are eventually for my table, so they don't need to be quality.
Price is too steep though, especially once you add air freight.
But yeah, I would never hope for show quality from someone that makes a living selling eggs and day olds from dozens of breeds and species. It happens, but so do unicorns :p

I agree... I am actually looking for some good quality ducks plus some oddballs (from Duckopolis). I know there are standards, but I do have my personal preference as to characteristics of the ducks... for example, in muscovy ducks, against the breed standards, I prefer my ducks to have black skin / caruncles that are edged with red... such as shown on this picture below:

Photo From Duckopolis

This I would like to keep with some birds of other lines.

Not sure if I make sense, but its a hobby... not looking for show birds.

Actually, if I could I would love to have wild type caruncles... Sometimes I think humans can take selective breeding too far and over-exaggerate the features.
